YUMA, Ariz.- Among the green fields, and rays of sunshine, are some of the hardest working people in Yuma.
Everyday they nurture these lands to put food on our tables and fill plate across the county with our crops.
One man in particular, Silvino Ponse, Supervisor with Foothill Packing, has been helping to facilitate, fresh crops, and stable employment for the last 16 years.
He tells us about the job hes held in the industry, and his love for everything agriculture.
” I’ve worked in everything lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, watermelon and cantaloupe and fortunately, I’m very thankful to Foothills Packing,” he said.
Alongside KYMA’s ‘Making a Difference’ recognition, a group of like-minded individuals called ‘Labor of Love’, are also taking the opportunity to thank the field workers for their service to the agriculture industry.
Bruce Qwynn, Director of ‘Labor of Love explains how sharing their stories ensures their valued contributions do not go over-looked.
He says, “Labor of Love is a program we put together to celebrate the people who work so hard in our industry. We pick out an employee who been very important to their job, but to highlight and to say thank you.”
This 12 week program will launch with breakfast on the farm for several area farm crews, and will perform random acts of kindness throughout the season.
All to show just how much Yuma County appreciates what they do for us and our country, because they are truly making a difference.
” Work in harmony , always united because i think the word crew means its a union of people , when a crew has unity problems, and they’re not working equally..the crew isn’t going to get anywhere”he said.
Silvino says he will continue to work hard and motivate his staff, And is humbled by the opportunity to be recognized.
He shouted, “My name is Silvino Ponse and I work for Foothill Packing Company, and I am Making a Difference int he industry!”
