YUMA, Ariz. – A man has been taken into custody after a high speed chase in Yuma Tuesday night, Richard Withers a spokesman for Yuma Sector Border Patrol says, “There was an SUV swerving in and out of lanes towards the agents.” Those agents tried to pull the suspect over but he took off at a high rate of speed “He ran through stop signs stop signs went west on an eastbound lane” Withers says.

The suspect has been identified as Eduardo Hernandez. He ended up crashing into this stop sign at the corner of 33rd drive and 14th street, our cameras were rolling at the scene and captured video of the scene. One of our photographers Jose Teposte lives in the area and explains what he saw that night, “I was watching TV I heard this loud boom I go outside we had border patrol, YCSO, YPD”. But the crash didn’t stop Hernandez. Sgt Lori Franklin with YPD says, “The suspect got out of the vehicle ran through back yards and was apprehended he had a misdemeanor warrant on him”.

The high speed chase ended in a crash at that corner you can still see visible damage to the stop sign. I spoke to many residents that say this is a quiet neighborhood and they never expected anything like this to happen here “It makes me nervous that there was a high speed chase here” says one resident. Teposte adds, “It just shows how Yuma county works together you had federal, county and city out here and it was instant.”
