YUMA, Ariz. – The man suspected of hitting and dragging a 20-year-old Yuma girl with a car was in court Tuesday afternoon, it was decided 21-year-old Jordan Silva may be released if he makes bond. Silva stood before Judge Pro Temp Stephen J. Rouff Tuesday at the Yuma County Superior Courthouse for an incident that happened back in August.
Silva allegedly came looking for his girlfriend outside a Yuma home on the 2600 block of South Nogales Avenue. In court it was said Silva grabbed his girlfriend by the arm and concerned witnesses stepped in. That’s when he is accused of hitting two people with his car and driving off. Later Silva turned himself in to Yuma police. During the time of his arrest prosecutors say Silva was on probation for importing narcotics. One of the victims, 20-year-old Ashlly Montes, is wheelchair bound now learning to walk again.
“I was very active so it sucks that I have to be in bed all the time and I have to have other people do things for me. I can’t do things for myself it’s exhausting,” said Montes. Montes was flown to a Phoenix hospital where she remained in intensive care for weeks, and is now in physical therapy, but scarred for life.
Montes said, “I can’t do anything with my right side. They’ve been trying to move my foot so hopefully that will come up sometime soon.” Judge Rouff decided Silva may be released to pre-trial services if he makes bond. Despite requests from prosecutors, Silva’s bail was reduced to $50,000, when originally it was set at $75,000. If paid, Silva will be released from custody under the condition that he does not contact the victim or drink alcohol. Ashlly’s mother, Armida Morales said, “Of course I want justice for my daughter, based on evidence I trust that the truth will prevail.”
Silva’s family was in court but weren’t available for comment.
