YUMA, Ariz. – An abused dog in Yuma is now living in a loving home. Melony, who doesn’t want us to use her last name, adopted Rascal on Thursday. On August 23rd Rascal was severely abused and found abandoned on the side of a road. He was to injured to walk. A passerby rescued him and took him to the Humane Society for care. He was covered head to toe in ticks and had a wire probed in his genitals.
Just after the incident we showed you how Rascal was recovering at the Humane Society of Yuma. They set up a gofundme.com account to raise money for his care, the community was able to raise about $6,000.
Speaking with Melony on Friday, with Rascal safe in her arms, he seemed to be in very good spirits. Melony explains how she learned of Rascal, “Something about him, his picture his story the people working with him, it really touched my heart, kids and dogs are love and I always have room for both.” Even though she hasn’t had him for long yet, the improvement in his health could clearly be seen “He hasn’t got his little self-confidence yet but he’s starting to perk up and go for walks and play more, but when people come around he will hide”, says Melony.
Melony works in the medical field and has rescued several abused dogs before, with her experience she says Rascal just needs some time to heal, “Once they feel safe once they feel secure they become more confident.” Melony says if you have the chance to save a life do it, “If you’ve got love there’s a dog for you it really easy on their end.”
