YUMA, Ariz. – It is an abuse case the Humane Society of Yuma calls horrific. A small poodle mix, named Rascal by his rescuers, was dropped out of a light-colored truck in Yuma on Sunday according to the Humane Society of Yuma. Lana Shapiro, marketing manager for HSOY says ,“We discovered it was injured and matted and completely covered in ticks, the kids that found it brought it to an hsoy supporter”. The Humane Society of Yuma says this case is more severe than what they are used to seeing as Shapiro explains, “The supporter found a wire probed in his genitals that is horrific on every level we cleaned him up removed the ticks now he is walking and drinking water”. HSOY says although he seems to be doing well, in these cases conditions can easily change.
Residents in the community say they are simply disgusted by this vicious abuse. Resident Allison Gililand says, “It makes you wonder what they do to their fellow human beings if they can inflict such harm on another living creature its just….just unspeakable”. A go-fundme page was put up to raise money for Rascal’s medical bills. HSOY had an initial goal of $2,500 but in 23 hours 90 people raised almost 5,000 dollars. Shapiro says, “This is a really great way that we let the community know we need help to provide this specific animal the care and comfort it needs” A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to a conviction in this case.
