YUMA, Ariz. – Hundreds of traffic stops took place this Fourth of July weekend resulting in many tickets being issued and several DUI arrests.
The Yuma Police Department conducted an impaired driving enforcement detail and say they had multiple DUI offenders including more than 200 traffic stops issued.
Lori Franklin said, “We had six DUIs over the weekend. Friday, Saturday and Monday time frame. Out of the six, two were DUI drugs and one was for extreme DUI. And two of them were repeated offenders of DUIs.”
During the traffic detail, YPD had help from the Arizona Governor’s office of highway safety. There were 231 stops over the four day time period. Eighty-four of those were issued speeding citations. Six seat belt violations and 91 violations cited for other than speeding.
Franklin adds, “The more officers you have out there looking for infractions then the more you’re going to see out there and follow the traffic rules because they don’t want to be stopped. The more officers there are out there, the better it is for us and the public.”
Two of six DUI arrest were drug related, one was for extreme DUI and two had prior DUI arrests. Twenty two of the contacts were with sober drivers.
