YUMA, Ariz. – Hello everyone! On this edition of Movies with Andy I have your reviews for 50 Shades of Black, and The Finest Hours.
Fifty Shades of Black, starring Marlon Wayne – is a parody of 50 Shades of Grey as you might tell by the title. If you’ve seen other parodies Wayne’s recently done you know you can expect over the top, corny comedy. If you liked his previous work you will most likely enjoy this one but I personally felt the comedy was too plain and some parts were drawn out – taking too long to get to the point. That’s why I give this film a 2.5 out of 5 Andys. Warning – 50 Shades of Black does include male nudity.
On to the true story of the greatest small boat rescue by the coast guard. It takes place in 1950’s Massachusetts. Actor Chris Pine plays ‘Bernie Webber’ who is a coast guardsmen. His character follows orders as written in the handbook. He is dedicated to his work. The coast guardsmen are sent on a mission to save a huge oil tanker stuck in the middle of the ocean. We get to see the struggle happen right from inside the oil tanker and what desperate moves the crew needs to make to survive. But this film is also a love story in the middle of all the action. The finest hours includes really amazing and engaging visuals that make you feel like a part of the fight between the massive waves. And you really feel the danger the four coast guardsmen went through. Although this movie is really good visually, I feel like the build up to the rescue took too much time, and the rescue in general was short. I felt this movie focused more on visuals than screen writing. But – this is a Disney movie and can be enjoyed by everyone which is why I’m giving this film a 3.5 out of 5 Andys.
If you saw either of these movies this weekend I would love to hear your take on them on our Facebook page as always I’m Andy Canchola bringing you your box office movie reviews every Friday!
